FAQ Myokin

What do you mean by 'Pain Relief without Pills?

Pain Relief without Pills means moving specific muscle groups to remind your body of its naturally pain-free state, and re-educating your nervous system to maintain that state. The technique is called 'Myokin' which is short for 'Myokinesthetics.'

What can you treat?

Pain and numbness in your head, neck, shoulders, back, and extremities all respond to Myokin treatment as do many named conditions like frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, and plantar fasciitis.

Myokin has been shown to be effective as well for internal conditions such as internal organs, inner ear, hard palate, genito-urinary, appendix, lungs, iris, constipation, and heart.

Whom do you treat?

Patients currently range in age from 5 to 94 most of whom have worked with Physicians and other practitioners without much relief.

How effective is Myokin?

Of the last 100+ patients I have treated, about 90% have a total or near total reduction in their pain or numbness conditions. I can't say how you would respond, but so far the record of success is very satisfactory.

How many treatments will I need?

Some patients require one treatment only. Some require as many as six treatments or more. That said, three or four treatments in a week's time is ideal, and most experience relief within one to three of those. Again, I can't predict your requirements.

Many patients who continue whatever activity caused the pain will return for 'maintenance' treatments on a regular or as needed basis.

Describe a Myokin session.
I begin by evaluating the source of your pain or numbness, and then move muscle groups related to a specific spinal nerve root. You are fully clothed either seated or on a massage table for 10 - 20 minutes. No oils nor cremes are used.

Is it expensive?

Myokin treatments cost less than some people's medical co-payment, and some employers' Health Savings Accounts cover the treatment cost. Pricing

FAQ Massage Therapy

How do I prepare for my massage session?

You need to do very little to prepare for your session. Here are a few specifics that will help us to help you:

Clip your toenails and fingernails if you can.
Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing if you will be having a session fully dressed.
Remove as many rings, necklaces, and other jewelery as possible.

How will I feel after my session?

Every session is unique, and your response to our work cannot be predicted with certainty. That said, there are some fairly common responses that may apply to you as well.

It's common for someone to feel a bit tired and lethargic immediately following a session. Within 10 - 15 minutes, however, this generally passes, and you may become energized, ready to take on whatever comes your way. We recommend that you have some fruit juice or water to help you through this stage. In fact, you should continue to drink plenty of water regularly.

Generally, if we have been treating a specific condition, then it's likely that you will feel some relief from the symptoms. This relief is likely to last for a matter of hours or days or even more depending on more factors than we can consider here.

What should I do after my session?

There are many beneficial ways to follw up a Massage Therapy session:

First of all, drink plenty of water. It is likely that during your session, we began moving various toxins out of your system. The best way to help this process is to drink water. Some recommend that one should drink half one's weight in ounces of water every day. That is, if you weigh 128 pounds, then you would benefit from drinking 64 ounces (2 quarts) of water a day*.

As the following days pass, take some time to be aware of how your session has affected the way you feel and move and behave. Some sessions will be benign, and simply leave you feeling relaxed. Others can begin a process of deeper changes. We need to know about these feelings in order to tailor future sessions to your condition.

* That said, two ancient texts have somewhat different advice. You be the judge of what works for you. "According to the book Qianjin Yaofang [Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold by Sun Simiao; Tang Dynasty]: those good at health care dine when they feel hungry and drink when thirsty. The book Zunsheng Bajian [Eight Commentaries Honoring Life by Gao Lian; Ming Dynasty] holds the same view that one should not eat until he feels hungry and not drink until very thirsty…. "

What if I feel worse after my session?

There may be times when one feels worse after a session although it does not necessarily mean that the session went badly. Here are some ways that you could feel worse, and what you should do about it:

A feeling of tiredness or lethargy persists beyond a half hour after the session. This may happen if you have been over working, sleeping poorly, or in general feeling rundown. Generally, the antidote for this is a good night's sleep, and putting some time for rest into your daily schedule.

An overall feeling of illness. This is unusual, but if it happens, you may simply be getting a cold or some other illness. On the other hand, Massage Therapy frequently releases toxins that have built up in your muscles, and this can be a downer. As above, the best antidote to this is to drink plenty of water after the session.

The condition being treated seems to get worse. It sometimes happens with some long standing conditions that one may go through what is called a healing crisis. This means specifically that the condition does worsen a bit before it begins to improve. This is actually a positive sign as it suggests that your treatment is effective. If there is no improvement after a couple of days, then please ask for help from your Therapist at 978-465-5111.
